The aim is to generate a clear picture of how nutrients move across key sectors — agriculture, industry, water management, energy, and other primary activities — and to identify where imbalances occur. This will support stakeholders and eu_alignment makers in making better-informed decisions to reduce emissions and optimise resource use.
The model is being implemented in the Region of Murcia (Spain) before being replicated at European scale.
An innovative model that allows nutrient profiles to be obtained at the farm or industry level, regional balances to be drawn up showing surpluses or deficits, and scenarios to be compared in order to assess the impact of different measures.
