Regional context and focus
The Region of Murcia is characterised by intensive agricultural and livestock production, a strong agri-food industry, and close interdependencies between farming, waste, and water management systems. These dynamics place nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) management at the centre of both environmental and productive challenges in the region, making Murcia a strategic territory within NPower.
The workshops organised within the Spanish Regional Cluster focused on the sectors most relevant for regional nutrient flows. To maximise sectoral relevance and participation, workshops were held online and also integrated into key regional agricultural and livestock events, such as Hortifruit and the SEPOR fair, as well as participating in the National Aquaculture Day activities, allowing NPower to engage directly with actors already active in these value chains.
The discussions highlighted several region-specific insights:
The activities brought together a broad and diverse group of regional actors, including farmers, livestock operators, agri-food companies, waste and water management organisations, technology providers, researchers, and public authorities. Almost 100 participants took part in the workshops, around half of whom formally joined the Cluster, confirming their interest in remaining involved in the next phases of the project.
These insights provide a concrete regional basis for the next stages of NPower activities in Spain, supporting the development of solutions adapted to territories with high nutrient pressure.
